ditch, isu sucks, and 12 hours
12.11.06 (3:27 pm)   [edit]

friday i got out of class and saw someone had written on my facebook wall. 'twas a brent covele saying i should come down for ditch. without hesitation, i grabbed my coat and gloves and was on my way. i thoroughly enjoy the annual treck from ISU back to the house with the kiddies chasing us in cars. i arrived at ISU just as brent, cory, and jeff were about to start walking. I pulled out a beer and we were on our way. We found a dark, narrow, one way street going west to walk eastbound toward the house. after some casual catching up with those three and a beer on 17th street with those guys, we thought it best that four guys not walk together as it would be obvious to the associates we were brothers on Ditch. so brent and i laid back a bit and seperated for the rest of the night. we would our way along the south side of wabash, along ohio blvd. to deming park. crossing through the christmas lights exhibit (oops?) with cars lined up we made a path away from any freshman's cars. after we got to the other side {well the grass was greener ;) } brent and i realized we we're quite sure where we were, so we headed back towards wabash and realized we had already passed the rat pack where we planned on taking a shot or two and seeing pinky. oh well, no turning back. we trudged on through some really nice house's lawns until we got to this big pond. choices: go left to be walking on the shoulder of wabash where any freshman is sure to catch us, or go right the long way around the water. we chose the 'safer' route. however about halfway around the pond, we see a car coming down the side street, slowing...slowing...stopping....shit...backing up. definately freshman. they two guys got out and walked with us for a bit. realizing that neither brent nor i were either of their big brothers, we figured they would call someone and report on our location. they had other plans. i laid back a bit and they attempted to freakin' hog-tie me up (which allowed brent to get away). i struggled with them for a while so it would require both of the frosh to be occupied by me instead of brent. they zip-tied me and threw me in the back of the car. after i was in the car, they asked who i was. i told them they fucked up--i'm an alumni! ha ha. oh well. they decided they would keep me anyway. on to find other brothers, specifically brent since he couldn't have run too far yet. they drove towards campus and saw brent at wabash and 46 walking down towards the baseball fields. so they drove to speed lot and parked to run down and catch him, too. i said i would run down with them so i would just be in the car. i promised to not just run away ;) my fingers were crossed. they didn't realized i had managed to get the zip tie off of my wrists in the back seat of the car. so i started to run down towards brent with them, and then bolted off towards skinner to get some yummy hot cocoa from cat like we do every year :-D YUMMY!! i was supprised to find not only cocoa but a metric ton and a half of cookies, cake, and brownies. twas a good ditch. that's 2 for 3 times being caught. i guess i suck at being sneaky, but excel at having a good time.

much later that night after coming back to the rat pack to get ready for bed, cameron and i were talking about how good a season butler basketball is having. he thought they were playing isu soon. we looked it up and, sure enough, they were set to play on saturday night. awesome! $12 for upper level seats, meh, not too bad. so after a saturday of watching the swim meet, rose basketball, and dinner at sonka's to get another new glass, we made our way to stand in line for tickets outside hulman arena. our seats were for the nosebleeds, but at the beginning of the game we scouted out better seats and moved down. isu started out leading, and cameron (jokingly) said a few minutes in, wouldnt it be funny if isu beat butler!? we laughed... at half time isu was still ahead. wtf? cameron spotted 5 DGs over in the student section, but neither of us had any of their phone numbers. dang. during half time there was the same 86 year old guy from the rose game shooting 3-pointers. he's a badass. he has like a 85% average, which both halftimes he shot better than. two things we noticed were that the isu cheerleaders are hot, and their dance team is better than rose's. ok, back to the game... second half butler started out a bit stronger giving us some (false) hope. so we watched in misery as butler trailed isu for the second half. we spotted 4 pikes now in the isu student section: whit, tomsu, beals, and huizenga. and they are cheering for isu! bastards! the score at least got close for a while, but isu pulled ahead again, leaving the 10-1 butler team behind in their dust. at the buzzer the isu crowd (including tomsu, whit, beals, and huizenga) rushed the floor cheering for the re-cock-u-lous outcome.

well finals are this week. one on each monday, tuesday, wednesday, and friday. today's went pretty well. i wouldn't say easy, but considering i enjoyed the class (which in-tern means i knew the material) and studied for a couple of hours, i feel fairly confident about it. tomorrow's should be easy. i will have to study for wednesday's, and probably review a bit for friday's. i will prevail. purdue is exponentially easier than rose.

in the paper today were poems and short stories instead of the usual boring news, i guess because it's finals week. well, not much is different with the literary talent of the engineers from purdue or rose. although there was one i thought had a smidgit of merit: "Twelve Hours" by a Laura Williams, lib art sophomore.

Twelve Hours
Laura Williams

Come to my room,
and let's be kids again-
Let's play hide and seek
Only twelve hours 'till noon
I'll go hide and you come seek me,
and I'll surprise you oh-so-sweetly
Im under the bed;
be careful! My feet!
But you fall, fall gracefully
Into me.
Tumble Tumble Tumble
Let's be kids again--
We'll fumble with our words again
You live the boy's dream: dream girl
dream girl marionettes, toys
Let's be kids again--
you a boy and me a girl
hid and seek in some dark corner
Oh, oh only 12 hours more
Twinkle twinkle little stars
I think I know just who you are,
but what will you be when you grow up?
Some corportate businessman in suits and in bars
I think you're scared of beoming a man.
Let's be kdis again--
let's dig up bugs in the sand
but I'm supposed to be a lady
Now isn't that overrated?
Dresses and frills and looks to kill
I don't want to be beautiful
Let's be kids again--
please, just you and me
Let's spend eternity, jut you and me
"Come to my room,"
It's connotation changes with eight years plus and eight years minus
The difference between wine and slime, sex and K'nex
but we'll be kids again
so yeah, come to my room
I'd be more than obliged
There'll be no endless gazing into each other's eyes
Let's play hid and seek
Only twelve hours to noon
Come to my room,
and let's be kids again.
